Jerwood FVU

Selection Process

Applications for the Jerwood/FVU Awards 2020 will be considered by an expert panel:

Irene Aristizábal, Head of Curatorial and Public Practice, Baltic and Co-curator British Art Show 9 (2020)

Steven Bode, Director, FVU

Harriet Cooper, Head of Visual Arts, Jerwood Arts

Shezad Dawood, artist

All applications will be carefully assessed by an internal panel consisting of Steven Bode, Director of FVU; Susanna Chisholm, Programme Development Director of FVU; Harriet Cooper, Head of Visual Arts at Jerwood Arts and Lauren Houlton, Gallery Manager at Jerwood Arts. They will each assess all applications and create a longlist of up to 20 applications for the external panel’s consideration.

The external panel will meet for one day to review and discuss the longlist of applications. The panellists will receive the full set of submissions for consideration and can identify any additional applications they would like to be considered. During the external panel meeting each longlisted application will be discussed in depth and four or more applicants will be selected for interview.

Interviews will take place on Thursday 23 May 2019. The selected applicants will be interviewed by representatives of Jerwood Arts, Film and Video Umbrella and one member of the external panel. The Awards involves working closely with Jerwood Arts and Film and Video Umbrella over a 12-month period so it is important that the interview panel represents both organisations. Two applicants will then be chosen to receive the Awards.

If you have not heard from us by Wednesday 22 May 2019 then your application has not been successful.

What are the panel looking for:

 - Innovative, bold, exciting and thought-provoking ways of addressing the theme Hindsight
 - Well-thought-out proposals that are achievable within the budget and ten-month development and production period
